Just after 5:00 am on Thursday, March 15, crews from the Enon/Mad River Township Fire and EMS Department were dispatched to a single vehicle accident on Dayton Road near Beard Drive.
Early reports indicate that the pickup truck traveling west on Dayton Road drifted left of center striking another vehicle causing minimal damage. The truck traveled an estimated 600 ft down the ditch along Dayton Road before flipping over and hitting a utility pole and snapping it off.
The pickup narrowly missed hitting a newly installed fire hydrant and the gas meter for the residence where the crash occurred. The debris field is quite large and the road remained closed as of 9:15 am.
According to Sgt Shane Meddock of the Ohio State Patrol, the driver did not have identification and family members have not yet been notified. It is believed that the driver is in his 50’s and from Springfield. Meddock was unable to say what caused the accident as the driver was not able to be interviewed at the scene.
EMS crews called for CareFlight to meet them and the driver was transported to Miami Valley Hospital but not details on his condition have been made available at this time.
A number of residents and businesses were without power and phone and cable lines were also affected. The Carriage Inn was closed and parents reported being unable to contact the Greenon Local bus garage. Crews from the electric company remain on scene trying to restore power as quickly as possible and crews from Spectrum Cable were arriving.
