The refrain of the popular Christmas lyrics “and mom and dad can hardly wait for school to start again” had to be playing over and over again in the heads of parents this past week as the Arctic Vortex descended on the county. Many school districts are calling Snow Days a no-win situation this winter. According to the Ohio Department of Education, each school district determines their own policy on cancelling classes. In the 2014-2015 school year, schools will be switching from a set number of days students must attend classes to a number of hours as decided by the Ohio Legislature. This new way of calculating contact hours could in fact, eliminate makeup days for districts.…
On January 9, 2014, Clark County Common Pleas Court Judge Richard J. O’Neill sentenced former Enon Tiger Booster volunteer Rebecca Bare to three years of probation following a plea of guilty to theft charges. In August of 2013, Bare was arrested and charged with forgery and theft from the parent-led organization. The discovery of missing funds was made by Stephanie Cooper and Hollie Kowalski—both volunteers with the organization. Over $8,000 was reported to be missing from the booster account according to police and court reports. Bare had written checks to herself and signed Cooper’s name to the checks according to the public information reports.…

The Clark County Commissioners met in regular session on Wednesday evening, January 8. This is the last-scheduled evening meeting for the commission. During the public address portion, resident Carlye Stewart spoke in favor of the commissioners approving additional evening meetings. She noted that she did not have an issue to bring to the table; however she “appreciated the opportunity to participate in local government”. Stewart stated that she cannot attend the daytime meetings, as they are held during the work day. Commissioners agreed to consider extending the option for evening meetings into the coming year.…
Old Man Winter roared back into our area on Thursday, January 2 dropping around four inches of snow. By around 1 pm, most of the streets in the community had seen the plow at least once and a promise of more visits could be expected when we found John from Mad River Township “trying to make a dent in it” while plowing the Green Meadows subdivision.…
