Members of the Enon Village Council voted last week and selected Tim DeVore as the Citizen of the Year and Rachel Stute as the Young Citizen of the Year for 2015.
Stute is the daughter of Nick and Kathi Stute of Sullivan Drive. She was nominated by Greenon High School Counselor Lauren Spencer.
Rachel is ranked fourth in her high school class of 117 students. She is actively involved in her community and works to raise awareness and funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation after a family member was diagnosed. She raised $500 for research and then organized “Dig for Diabetes” a campaign that raised an additional $2,585 with the school volleyball team.
In addition to her school activities, she volunteers at the Springfield Soup Kitchen and helped to organize the Greenon High School Adopt a Family donations. She is described by Spencer as “dependable and responsible” in her work at the high school and within her class.
Lifetime resident Tim DeVore was nominated by Jim Kinnamon a previous recipient of the award. DeVore will be honored for his work with the Enon Community Historical Society, Knob Prairie UCC, the Village of Enon and the Clark County Park District.
DeVore will be recognized for the countless hours he has donated to the Enon Community Historical Society. He serves as president of the organization and has been actively involved for many years working at the Apple Butter Festival, Valentine’s Day Dance and the annual holiday tree lighting event.
Kinnamon noted in his nomination “if you need something done ask Tim”. DeVore is also a member of the board for his church. He has donated time to build a raised floor for the choir loft and installed ceiling fans and done electrical work for the church hall.
DeVore served the Village of Enon residents as a member of council and also spent time as a member of the Enon/Mad River Township Fire Department. He will be recognized for a list of his accomplishments including support of neighbors and others across the community over the years.
