On Thursday May 12, 2016 at approximately 9:42 AM, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Educational Support Officer assigned to Greenon Local Schools was made aware of a bomb threat at Greenon High School. The written threat was located inside one of the boy’s bathrooms at the school. The written message warned of a two bombs being in the school scheduled to go off at 11:00 AM. Clark County Sheriff Deputies, along with Greenon High School employees evacuated students from the school. Students were relocated to the football field of the high school.

Once students were safely away from the high school, a thorough search of the building was conducted. Notification to the Wright Patterson Air Force Base Bomb Squad and Dayton International Airport Police Bomb Squad was made and bomb –sniffing dogs later assisted in searching the interior and exterior of the high school. Mad Township Fire/Rescue personnel were summoned and staged at the high school as a precautionary measure. After a complete search of the high school, no devices, or explosives of any kind were located.

Because of the timing of the evacuation, school officials sent the students home for the remainder of the day.

A Detective and the Educational Support Officer began an investigation into the reported bomb threat. During the course of the investigation, it was revealed the male student who reported finding the bomb threat was responsible for writing it.
